Associate Professor, Dr. Norimitsu Hamaoka

Research Field: Tropical Crop Science, Crop Husbandry
Research Activities:                                                                                                                                                          “Understanding the ecophysiology of tropical crops and its application for agricultural production.”                      Our research focuses on tropical and subtropical crops (mainly yams and rice) to elucidate eco-physiological traits that can contribute to improved agricultural productivity, and to establish new cultivation systems based on them. In addition, through international joint research with Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries, we are involved in development of new crop varieties adapted to local environment and in creation of high crop production systems. By promoting tropical crop science research, we would like to give back the results obtained to agriculture in tropics and subtropics in the future.

Assistant Professor, Dr. Shingo Hosoishi

Research Field: Systematic Entomology
Research Activities: I’m working on taxonomy, phylogeny, biogeography and biodiversity of ants in the tropical Asia; using traditional morphological analysis, molecular phylogenetic analysis, divergence time estimation, haplotype network analysis, DNA barcoding, and ordination; aims to reveal phylogeographic history, ant diversity in Asia, effects of disturbance (deforestation, plantation, fire, flood, global warming) on ant assemblages.

Associate Professor, Dr. Masaru Matsumoto

Research Field: Environment Microbiology
Research Activities: Recently,economical development of countries of Southeast Asia remarkably: in the tropics and the subtropics region. Being attached importance is not the no more and more for our country of the21st century. social related economical I think that development of prompt detection and the simple identification method of the research,especially making the rice farming disease data base and the rice farming pathogen and the technological spreads are the activities in that for an important education and the society intended for the farm products cultivation environment in the tropical country

Associate Professor, Dr. Akinori Ozaki

Research Field: Environmental Hydraulics
Research Activities: Major research interests are to clarify the relationship between hydrodynamic phenomena in water bodies and water quality changes, fisheries diseases, and water pollution in closed water bodies such as lakes, reservoirs, and aquaculture ponds in tropical and subtropical zones. In particular, I am conducting field observations and sampling of aquatic environmental changes in Thailand, Vietnam, and Bangladesh. The following four themes are current research;
– Process and mechanism clarification for heat storage in small-scale closed salinity ponds
– Clarification of heavy metal pollution mechanisms in lowland delta areas in Asia
– Visualization and quantification of algal bloom in a closed water body by image analysis
